7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back at the
preliminary exercise we did at the start of they year and to finishing our
short film now, you can clearly see how much progression we have made. We used
a lot of the techniques and shots we used in the preliminary exercise to make
our film. For example when the student walks through the door using a match on
action to open it, we used the same n our film where the main character is
walking into his teacher’s office.

One of the shots we learnt how to use the 180-degree rule. During
our film we never broke the fourth wall. We knew we couldn’t because it the
shot would flip and look silly.

Another shot we learned from the
preliminary exercise was the over the shoulder shot which we transferred in our
film in the conversation between the main character and the teacher.
Our film
also had a shot-reverse-shot, during the homeless man and the main character
scene. This clearly shows how we have used a wide variety of shots in producing
our film
In our film we used low and
high angle shots that portray the characters in a certain ways. The main
character was shown in a low angle shot to make him appear dominant and
superior in that situation in the homeless man scene. In comparison to the
homeless man whom we used a high angle shot to show his weakness in this
situation
