The target
audience for our film are mostly males aged between 12 and 30 years old, as our
film is limited due to the age certification of our film. The film would mostly
appeal to males as action/thriller films involve a lot of guns, car chases and
explosions which appeal more to males than females because of these
conventions. We aimed our film to be for young adults and used language
appropriate to suit their age group, so people younger than that wouldn’t
understand it. In our research into our age certification we found out that we
can use bad language and violence but have a limit to it. We limited this
because then we could widen our target audience.
Our film age
certificate is 12A; this is most suitable for our film fits all the guidelines
and criteria to be this age certificate.
A film
similar to ours is ‘Snatch’ which has an age certificate of 18 therefore their
film would appeal to an older audience than ours. The film has a lot stronger
language than ours and has much more graphic violence and therefore also would
appeal more to males due to these conventions.
We aimed our
film at younger people rather than older because younger people go to cinemas
more than older people and because our institution is independent the
distribution of our films will mainly be in cinemas. That doesn’t mean older
people can’t see it it’s just that it would appeal more to younger people as
all the main actors in the film our young and younger people would be able to
relate more to them.
