15 min analysis of similar film - part 1

Chosen Analysis Film: Inception
Storyline (source, IMDb):
Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.

Notes on storyline:
Sci-Fi like theme to story with idea of thief in peoples minds stealing information, this has made him a wanted person. - Like having the information made our character a wanted person.
Offer of redemption creates a change in the plot of the story making it more interesting instead of the usual predictable, 'character on run from the law'.
From the storyline it appears there is some sort of tension created with the idea of an impossible mission.

Main characters (source, IMDb):
Dominic Cob (Leonardo DiCaprio)
Cobb is an extractor - he enters people's dreams, steals their secrets, and sells them to their competitors. His totem is a spinning top that belonged to his late wife. When in dreams, it spins forever, never toppling over.

Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
Arthur is Cobb's right hand man, and apparently closest friend. They have known each other since before the tragic death of Cobb's wife. He lives in America, but travels the world with Cobb. Arthur and Cobb used to work with Eames, but Arthur and Eames appear to dislike each other now.

Ariadne (Ellen Page)
Ariadne is a student of architecture in France. She meets Cobb through one of her teachers, who is Cobb's father-in-law. After a few tests, she is brought into the team as their official Architect. At first she is adverse to dream sharing but can't stay away from the freedom that comes from it.

Character comments:

Dominic Cobb - Main character that is the base of the story. The iconography of the spinning top portrays unease and disorientation which is linked to the theme of the film.

Arthur -  Main characters friend and apparently closest friend. History of friends, bound by a tragic event. close because he travels with Cobb.

Ariadne - Student of architecture in France shows she has knowledge.  At first she is adverse to dream sharing but can't stay away from the freedom that comes from it.
