1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
This first establishing shot establishes the area that our
film is located in and represents the urban environment, furthermore, as the weather
is moderately dark this foreshadows the outcome of events. Urban environments
often have connotations of violence, which is what our fill incorporates and is
why it is incorporated.
When the character leaves college and is on his way home the
sky is clear and this represents more freedom for the student; this is also
representing the change in emotion.
The camera was positioned close to the character when he was
moving so that the camera had to move faster, this was so that the shots looked
somewhat faster when panning. In the shot with the student and the teacher in
the office the camera is positioned up high taking the power away from the
teacher, the teacher has less power because the student is disobeying.
The image of the USB is flashed before he picks it up to
create a sense of discomfort this also to links to the theme of thriller.
Towards the end of our film we used the same method but with more flashes of
the same image (characters eye); this also linked to the thriller genre and
created tension and discomfort again.
The fast pace of the music in the beginning suggests the
action genre. When the student leaves college the music stops and there is a
sound of nature, this sounds more peaceful and the sound of the drum hit that
comes shortly after is more noticeable and discomforting. We used the sound of
a gun cocking at the end of our film to represent the use of guns further in
the film, this is to represent the action that there will be.
